The Nordics are coming- Scandinavians are showing a strong interest in real estate on Mallorca
`The Nordics are coming` at least according to the German economic magazine Capital, which writes that Scandinavians are showing a great interest in real estate on Mallorca. Minkner & Partner have already taken this into account and has expanded its marketing efforts intensely in the Scandinavian circle and in particular Sweden, Norway and Denmark, and has also contracted a Swedish member of staff, Mr. Anders Paulsson. For many years Minkner & Partner has worked together with the Swedish SEB Bank through their branch in Luxembourg and which is responsible for introducing the Minkner & Partner portfolio to wealthy Swedish investors.

2. Mallorca – Construction, Economy, the law and taxes
(1) Construction and investment
Palma- draft of a new plan for land usage
The city council has prepared a new land usage plan and will present it for discussion. The plan pertains to the land between the sea, the cathedral and the congress palace. The aim is to make this space more user friendly for walkers and to create more leisure facilities. The pedestrian walkways on the seafront will be widened at the expense of the road, in order to create a boulevard from the Congress centre to the Cathedral.
Palma-El Molinar: Construction of the new roundabout begins
Now that the tourist season has ended, construction work will begin in November on the new exit for Es Molinar which will result in significant traffic delays in this area, part of which will be re-directed via the Cami de Fondo. The future motorway exit will be situated on an elevated roundabout and will also be the new access for El Molinar. A new cycle route will also be formed that will lead into the centre of the island.
Palma: Plans for the old pier in the port of Palma
The 20 acre site of the old pier (Moll Vell) where cargo ships are still unloaded will be redesigned. Five buildings with a maximum of four storeys will be constructed and will accommodate restaurants, cafés, nightclubs, art galleries and museums, all within beautiful grounds, plus space for sports complexes. It is thought that a long planned maritime museum will also be created there. Before work can start the old port building for port taxes and customs authority, has to be demolished. The new plan should be approved by the town council in November 2014 and then presented to the public.
Cala Millor: Rafael Nadal and family have bought and plan to refurbish an aparthotel
Rafael Nadal and his family have bought an aparthotel in Cala Millor in the calle Castells for a purchase price of 5 million. The plan is to completely refurbish it and convert it to a five star residence and increase the number of beds from 140 to 180. This is nothing new for Nadal. It is said he has already acquired several hotels in Mexico and it appears the family want to invest in additional gastronomic adventures on the island.
Santanyi: 1.2 million Euros for the construction of a sports complex
Santanyi councils treasurer has the last laugh: lively real estate sales make for good returns in council tax, the twice weekly market attracts thousands of visitors, and in general business people are very satisfied. The town hall has now made available 1.2 million Euros for the construction of a sports complex on the outskirts of Cala Figuera. This is a new building with a gym, locker rooms, sauna and Turkish bath. The swimming pool will also be modernised. Construction should be completed by the end of 2015.
Campos: The Supreme Court have given the go ahead for the golf resort Son Baco
Following a pitiful spectacle involving party political conflicts, abuse of legal rights and breach of the constitution the Balearic Supreme court has finally put an end to the 20 year (!) dispute and decided against the decision of the island council, which was presented on the initiative of the central left government, who revoked retroactively the characteristic of `general interest`of the project. However, for a project of this size it has now been decided that it has all the attributes necessary as being of `general interest`. An 18 hole golf course will be created on the grounds of the manor house Son Baco and an adjoining four star hotel will also be built there. The municipality of Campos had always supported the project, not only because of the large investment, but also because of the expected creation of many new jobs in the economically underdeveloped region.
(2) Economy
Tourism: Records continue to be broken
The tourist trade in the Balearics travel companies and hotel operators, have reported new records on a monthly basis and the balance sheet for the first nine months of 2014 has been released. According to Frontur-Study, the Spanish Ministry of Tourism and Industry, 12 million tourists visited the Balearics this year. That is almost 2 million more and so a 6% increase compared to the same period last year. The majority of guests came from Germany, followed by Great Britain and the Spanish mainland.
Job market: the amount of unemployed in the Balearics drops to 15,9 %
Spain’s economy is on the rise albeit slowly and of course this is noticeable in the job market. The number of unemployed dropped in the third quarter of the yearto 15.9 %. This is the lowest level since the height of the crisis in 2008 and the lowest in Spain similar figures are reported only in Navarra and the Basque country. On the mainland the level of unemployed also dropped by 200,000 to 5.4 million corresponding to a percentage of 23,7 %.
(3) The law, taxes and finance
Property tax will remain in place for 2015, although it will be reduced in the Balearics
Originally the Spanish Government decided not to raise property tax from 2015. Now the bill for the Spanish budget has been submitted in Congress. Collection of the tax is expected for 2015 and the new suspension of the tax is expected as of 31.12.2015. The reasoning behind this is that the revenue from this tax is necessary to consolidate public finance. The collection of the tax is the responsibility of the individual autonomous regions. Madrid has already announced that it will not increase the property tax for 2015.
In the Balearics the property tax will remain in place for 2015 according to an announcement by Prime Minister Bauza, albeit in a modified form. The tax rate will be reduced, and amount exonerated per owner /taxpayer will be increased from 700,000 € to 800,000 €. M & P - newsletter will provide details as they become known.
3. Minkner Art Gallery
Brigitta Nottebohm “ ART LIGHTS UP“
Brigitta Nottebohm was born in Salzburg, and studied in the art academy in Vienna and then as a student travelled through Italy, France, and Spain and then later New Mexico, Arizona and Los Angeles and since 1984 has been living between Mallorca and Münich. Since 1987 she has built her atelier on Mallorca. After earlier photorealistic images she has now dedicated herself to the conquest of new spaces, of light and its refraction through the matter and the landscape. There was a series of pictures entitled "SPACE LIGHT LANDSCAPE". In another series of paintings "PANTA RHEI" the artist dealt with the theme of constant change - being as eternal dynamic change. On large-scale wood or canvas surfaces, relief structures and pigments are applied creating abstract paintings that generate the tactile reliefs and the application of colour depth and dynamics. The picturesque and compositional openness conveys memories of nature scenes. Presently Brigitta Nottebohm paints large-scale, abstract paintings. Red and gold is artfully applied in infinitely many nuances in superimposed color and image layers. Underlying swatches are only hinted at, and ultimately for the viewer to guess. By using pure pigments Birgitta Nottebohm creates remarkably energetic, radiant paintings.

Diego Arango Arango, Hanne Holze – the naive send their regards
Originally naïve art was a group of untrained people who presented their dreams of an ideal world. Most of their works represented rural life, but from this a modern art movement has developed which is identified by a childish representation. The Minkner & Partner art gallery has put together an exhibition of two international artists. Diego Arango Arango was born in Columbia but has lived on Mallorca since 1988. He paints in a naïve style that brings together symbols and dreamlike images. On the current art scene he is classed as the ‘sophisticated naïve artist’. Hanne Holze has lived on Mallorca since 1998. She observes people and parodies them in her paintings- always positive, benevolent, loving and carefree characters that are perfectly rotund with sometimes strange anatomies.
